Tahitian vanilla beans are the fruits of climbing orchid variety called vanilla Tahitensis which is a totally different type than the Planifolia varieties.

Tahitian vanilla beans are normally wide and flat and higher moisture content than Planifolia. Tahitian vanilla beans contain less vanillin however they have characteristic aroma than other type of vanilla beans. The aroma is flowery with tone of ripe fruits. Their aroma is described as licorice, cherry-chocolate, or aged wine.
